The field of structural engineering is a broad one. Storey ENG (Pty) Ltd has the expertize to undertake work in most areas of structural engineering, be it concrete, steel or timber. We also have specialist expertize in the field of structural vibration and particularly as it is applied to:
Marine Building, Plettenberg Bay This project is characterized by the requirement of having to provide a concrete frame to what was a brick and concrete slab structure. Today this building is a prominent shopping centre in the main street of Plettenberg Bay. Rein Tannery, Mossel Bay The structures designed for this tannery comprised:
The project required special attention be paid to the protection of the concrete, particularly the floors and channels, as the effluent in the tannery is highly corrosive. MTN Irancell, Iran The work for Irancell required seismic analyses and designs be done for cellular base station structures in this earthquake prone region. Stonefield Polo, Plettenberg Bay The stable, storage shed, and helicopter hanger structures on this polo field all needed to be founded on piles as the soil conditions were particularly poor. Despite this, the structures had to remain economical and in some instances required very tight deflection and movement tolerances. Fuel Loading Gantries, Africa The fuel loading gantry structures, because of their location in various African countries such as Mozambique and Kenya where sophisticated contractors might not always be readily available, require that the structures be fabricated in South Africa, and then be transported to site where they are to be assembled by unskilled erectors. This precluded the use of complex structural members and large lifting equipment. Residential Structures We have gained much experience in the design of structures for residential buildings, both large and small. Of note are the large number of structures designed for homes on the Erinvale Golf Estate in Somerset West. Cellular Structures Our involvement with the roll-out of cellular telephony networks has resulted in much experience being gained in the design of cellular base stations and mast structures. This type of work has been done for all three network operators in South Africa.
