forensic engineering

Forensic engineering is the term we have coined for the investigative work we do. Two primary categories are identified:

  • Failure Investigations.

  • Insurance Investigations and Assessments.

Southfield Hotel, Retreat

Following the fire that devastated the upper floor of the Southfield Hotel we were appointed to undertake an investigation into the damage caused to the structure of the building and to certify the extent to which the existing structure may be retained in the repair of the hotel.

We were also tasked to prepare an evaluation of the insured value of the building and the cost of the reinstatement works.

Heidelberg Sewage Treatment Works

Following the floods of January 2005 we were appointed to evaluate the insurance claim submitted for the reinstatement of the works. Once this was completed we on behalf of the insurers negotiated a settlement figure with the consulting engineers acting on behalf of the insured.

Witsand, Blaauwberg Strand

An investigation was carried out to determine the extent to which the reinforced concrete structure was damaged due to the corrosion of the reinforcing steel. Following this investigation we specified the remedial measures required and oversaw the repairs.
